Concrete block mass increases energy efficiency. Mass allows a wall to store and dissipate heat.

A concrete wall takes advantage of differences in night and day temperature by responding to changes very slowly. As a result, less energy is required to maintain a comfortable constant temperature. Buildings that are made of concrete are less expensive to heat and cool.

Much of this energy efficiency is attributed to the mass of a concrete wall.

Another advantage is air infiltration from wall leaks.  Concrete block walls which are more airtight than other walls seal in air-conditioned air better while keeping out hot, humid air.
